The Cincinnati Addiction Research Center (CinARC) was created in 1995 in response to NIDA agreement #Y01 DA 50038-00 and commenced work in October of that year as the Cincinnati NIDA VA/UC Medication Development Research Unit (MDRU).
The principal goal of CinARC is to develop a pharmacological treatment for cocaine dependence. Additional goals are to discover better treatments for opiate dependence and for other addictions. One of CinARC's areas of special interest and expertise is the management of clinical trials data. CinARC has devoted significant resources to developing an efficient data management system, including the use of computer-readable case report forms (CRFs) and faxes to transmit data. Moreover, CinARC has created a data management software program, the Cincinnati Teledata Manager (CTM), for managing and facilitating data transmission, entry and verification. This program has been used for the past four years for managing clinical trials data from several NIDA-funded clinical trials conducted in various sites in the U.S., including Cincinnati.
