Are you or your child experiencing psychiatric symptoms?
The Department of Psychiatry has a staff of physicians that can help assess these symptoms. They can also identify any appropriate studies for your participation. Research studies are currently being conducted in the areas of bipolar disorder, substance abuse, schizophrenia, and depression.
Have you or your child been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness?
There are many studies being conducted for patients who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, substance abuse, schizophrenia, and depression. These studies are designed to help better understand and treat these illnesses and can involve drug therapy, brain imaging, or computerized testing.
Do you have a psychiatric illness but your child does not have symptoms?
If you have been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness such as bipolar disorder your child may be eligible for a study that is being conducted at the Division of Bipolar Disorders Research. The research is designed to study descendants of individuals who have been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness.
Are you interested in being a control?
Control subjects do not have a history of mental illness and do not have any immediate family members that have been diagnosed with a psychiatric condition. Control subjects are an important part of the research at the University of Cincinnati and are administered the same brain imaging and computerized testing as subjects with psychiatric symptoms.
